We hope you are all having a wonderful beginning to your summer!  Here at New Day Academy, we’ve already been brainstorming about some fun activities for the upcoming year; for example, field trips and new vendors.  Read on to get all the details!

2010   Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Did you know that this year is the 75th anniversary of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival? We did!  At New Day Academy, we want our students to experience literature on the stage, so we have organized a field trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  Come with us to see one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Twelfth Night, on September 17th.  New Day Academy will cover the ticket costs for your student and one accompanying adult.  If you and your student would like to join us, please email kelly.mcgarva@newdayacademy.net or call us at the office: 530-233-3861.

Please keep in mind that Twelfth Night is recommended for mature 10 year olds and up.  If you’d like to read more about the festival’s adaption of Shakespeare’s play, please read about it on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival website:
www.osfashland.org

There are only 30 spots available for this field trip, so please don’t wait to respond.  If more than one parent would like to attend, you can purchase your own tickets and accommodations…To insure ticket availability, we suggest that you buy your extra tickets and make arrangements as soon as possible.  These plays sell out very quickly, especially the Friday night performances!

Accomodations:

We will be renting out the entire Ashland Hostel to stay at the night of the play.  It costs $25 per person.  Check out their website at:  www.theashlandhostel.com

We know 25 dollars can be a lot for families right now, so we would also like to organize some fundraisers for this field trip.  Have any great fundraising ideas for us?  Please share!  Kelly.mcgarva [at] newdayacademy.net

Goodbye and Hello

NDA had to say farewell to Dan Young, New Day Academy’s Board President for the last two years. Dan finished his term at the end of June, and we honored him with a special plaque for his 5 years of excellent service.  He will be missed.
Thank you Dan!

Our board of directors said hello to a new member replacing Dan.  Nancy McCoy, a parent from Adin joined board ranks
June 19th.

At the last Board meeting the Directors chose new officers for the 10-11 year.  Lani Estill will be our Board President.  She has been with this school since its inception in 1998 and still has one daughter attending New Day Academy.  Lani is an accountant and this is her second term serving on the board.  Loraine Colbert will be our secretary this year.  Loraine has also been with our school since it started and her daughter is an 8th grader with us this year.  Nancy McCoy will fill the seat of  Board Treasurer, Andrew Taylor is our sponsoring district representative, and Joe McMath is a member from Shasta County.  Joe’s term has expired and we are in need of a new Shasta County representative.

Can you help?…..

New Day Academy needs another Shasta County Board Member for this upcoming year.  Interested?  Contact Laura at laura.vanacker [at] newdayacademy.net or call the office at 530-233-2861
